What Is Social Advocacy?
Social advocacy encompasses many areas like those above. Many people within our county are suffering because of the actions or inactions of others.
- Elder abuse and neglect – There are too many people in our senior living facilities, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes being harmed. Some are even being harmed in their homes. They are dealing with physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect, financial abuse and neglect, and so much more.
- Women’s rights – There are women in our county whose rights are being violated daily. These violations take the form of physical violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, gender discrimination, and so much more.
- Homelessness – We have an incredible homeless population in the Ironton, Ohio area and throughout Lawrence County and the entire Huntington, Ashland, Ironton area. It’s important to provide support where possible through the provision of life-sustaining resources as simple as a bottle of clean water.
- Mental health – We are in the midst of a mental health crisis and it’s important to provide the resources and support to those that don’t know what their next steps should be or are having difficulty finding the help that they need.
- Rape victims – Rape is another major issue that we have. Too frequently, we hear of individuals being arrested for rape. Then again, not everyone is arrested or the victim doesn’t come forward until many years later due to fear that they won’t be believed, fear of the assailant, or it has simply taken time for them to process their trauma. Beth and her team can guide and support you.
- Police Brutality – Police brutality and abuse of power have become too common in Lawrence County, Ohio, and throughout our entire country. The police are here to protect us. They are not supposed to abuse their power through intimidation or simply selecting a target and harassing them. Our team can help if you have been victimized by the police.
- Political Abuse – Political abuse is when political power is used to further personal agendas or even punish a select group of people.
